The Avon and Somerset Transition Board wants to ensure that potential PCC candidates all have the same opportunity to understand the policing and governance issues in Avon and Somerset before finally deciding to stand and finalising their manifestos. The Chief Constable, Chief Executive and Treasurer of the Authority are prepared to meet separately for up to an hour with any candidate who meets the statutory requirements to be a PCC candidate in Avon and Somerset and who states that they are actively considering standing as a PCC this November. These meetings can take place at any point between now and the official final declaration date for PCC candidates in October 2012 at a mutually convenient time. The Authority and Constabulary will not publicise these meetings. They will give an opportunity for officers to brief potential candidates on key issues in Avon and Somerset and for potential candidates to ask questions. If you wish to take advantage of this opportunity please contact Amanda Bennett on 01275 816378 or email amanda.bennett@avonandsomerset.pnn.police.uk
Relevant officers of the Constabulary and Authority will also offer to meet with candidates who are officially nominated as candidates after the closing date for nominations to discuss planning for transition. Details of the arrangements for those meetings will be published nearer the time.
Stephen McNamara, the Police Area Returning Officer appointed by the Home Office for Avon and Somerset will also be arranging some events for candidates and we will publish details of this when we have them.
